The Role
We are looking for someone who can document what we are building and make it visible to the world. Not a marketer. Not a social media manager. A creator: someone who can walk into our work, understand what is technically hard and what is genuinely interesting, and then produce content that makes other people feel what we feel about this.
General Machines is building the data and evaluation infrastructure that frontier AI depends on. That story is not being told well by anyone, including us. The work spans live AI agents in retail environments, annotation programs for physical robotics, specialized models running on-premises in stores, and evaluation benchmarks for agent behavior. There is material here that nobody is making into content. That is the opportunity.
Think of this as a one-person production house embedded inside a technical research company. The output is content that makes the work visible: explainers, behind-the-scenes, technical documentation turned into stories, essays written in our voice.
What You Will Work On
Video production. Documenting our data collection programs, explaining how our models work, showing what an AI agent actually does when it navigates a real e-commerce checkout. Short-form and long-form, shot and edited by you.
Written content. Blog posts, research summaries, project documentation written for an audience that is smart but not specialist. We want people to understand what we are building and why it matters, without needing a PhD in data infrastructure.
Distribution. X, LinkedIn, and wherever else the audience for this work actually lives. You will develop the channel strategy, not just execute against one we hand you.
Voice and brand. We have a design aesthetic. We do not yet have a fully developed written and visual voice. You will help build that from the inside.
What We Are Looking For
A track record of making technical content that is actually interesting. Not press releases. Not explainer videos that feel like textbooks. Work that made people want to share it.
Strong video production skills: shooting, editing, post-production. You should be able to produce something watch-worthy with a small kit and no crew.
Writing that is clear, specific, and not corporate. If your default voice sounds like a LinkedIn post, this is not the right role.
Genuine curiosity about AI, agents, and the systems we are building. You will need to understand the work well enough to have opinions about it. We will teach you what you do not know, but curiosity is not something we can teach.
Self-direction. We will not hand you a content calendar or a brief every week. The right person for this role produces work independently and brings ideas, not requests for permission.
Show Us
The right person for this role probably has a body of work already. Include links when you apply. We care more about what you have made than where you have worked.
